Flying in from Singapore was pretty chill, JAL premium economy is lovely with wide seats and lots of leg room. Nobody can recline their seat onto yours but it means if you do want to lay back, you lose all your leg room because the seats push forwards. ANYWAY. We landed, customs was quick and then it was time to find some food before we picked up our hire car.
Picked up the car we’ve got for the first few days without any particular difficulty, but the usual levels of upsell and paperwork. We got a lovely little Nissan “Kicks” hybrid SUV thing.
Drove down to Yugawara, figured out where we were heading and then went looking for something to do before we checked in.
The town of Atami is cute but … so many one-way streets and no there’s no un-paid parking and everyone’s a little angsty on the roads argh.
We gave up looking for a fancy sushi/fish place and I was hangry so we found the “Sun Fried Chicken Shop Atami Branch” (太陽から揚げ店 熱海店 @taiyou770) which turned out to be exactly what I needed. Fried chicken and curry soup, a lot of it.
Our ryokan for the night was Ashikari, located in Yugawara. We have a “family room for four and private bath”, because private onsen, best onsen.
Chilled out, enjoyed the bath a few times, lazed around.
Dinner was lovely, so many little dishes.
Then it was time for more onsen and relaxing, and sleeeeeeep.
