The old woman and the gunslinger

An old woman prospector shuffled into town leading a tired old mule. the old woman headed straight for the only saloon to clear her parched throat.

She walked up and tied her old mule to the hitch rail. as she stood there, brushing some of the dust from her face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. The young gunslinger looked at the old woman and laughed, saying “hey old woman, have you ever danced”

SCA Double Camping Bed Design Mk1

So, ugly horrible metal bedframes suck. I needed to come up with a new design for a double-mattress supporting bed frame and here’s my first idea.

The Bed frame completed, in situ.

It comes in a few parts, two top pieces and two side pieces. There’s a minimum of parts to hold it together, with hard wood the frame should lock together with just friction and be all fine. I’m still working out ideas for the legs, but here’s my current thinking.

Quick solution for pausing network hogs on tethered OSX devices

As an Australian, we can’t get away from mobile data caps. It seems to be a bit of a recent issue with some people on the mainland too 🙂 Here’s a quick script I wrote to stop myself forgetting about things a while back.

Add this to your crontab (crontab -e from the terminal):

And put the following into a file (call it whatever you like, but the file path above must match it. Once you’ve made the file make sure to enable the execute bit by typing “chmod +x [filename]” in the terminal.

ISC DHCPd with IPv6 “subnet_number():inet.c:53: Addr/mask length mismatch.”

If you’re getting an error along the lines of this in your syslog while trying to start a DHCPv6 server, you’ve probably got IPv4 ranges in your config file. It seems if it’s in IPv6 mode it can’t deal with IPv4 information being in the config file. :S

So, rip the IPv4 information out of your /etc/dhcp/dhcpd6.conf file and you should be good to go.

Werribee Open Range Zoo Open Vehicle Adventure Pt 3 – Giraffes!

Giraffes! Tall, nervous and spotty. The only creature humans keep in captivity that lasts LESS time than in the wild. Something about how nervous they are in general.

I’m fairly sure this one’s called Ajali. Either way, he seemed really inquisitive when we arrived. As you can see, he even had a lick of the antenna. The guide said that every time they have a hire vehicle in the enclosure - when one of theirs breaks down - the giraffes will steal (or try to) the antenna in short order 🙂
